The inaugural International Yoga Day 2017 was hosted at GMDC Ground, Ahmedabad, alongside four additional venues across the city, bringing together over 100,000 participants for a single, coordinated mass yoga demonstration. The event was graced by Shri Amit Shah, the Hon'ble Chief Minister, and Baba Ramdev, with the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi joining virtually. It was broadcast live to audiences across the country.

Kamnath introduced entry scanning belts at the venue for the first time at a Yoga Day event, setting a new benchmark for security and crowd management at scale. The day's efforts were formally recognized with a world record, complete with certification, for the participation of over 1 lakh individuals in yoga. Kamnath supported end-to-end with refreshments, including dry snacks, juice, buttermilk, and water for every participant.
